Lead generation “Art of the Pitch”

How many of you want to be Master Dealmakers?

I work as an outside sales contractor for a small advertising agency. My job is to get CEOs or CTOs on the phone, for small business with under $20,000,000 million in sales in industrial rust belt-states, convince them to have an in-person meeting, and then sell them.

Retainer contracts It is thankless work, “dialing for dollars”: cold calling prospects and getting rejected all day long. But it taught me a lot about the art of persuasion, and the value of being the odd one out.

Part of it is strategic planning and testing. Calling between 7-8 am, then again from 6-7pm, for instance, allowed me to bypass gatekeepers and get to the business owners. [Read more…]

Sales and Lead Generation Tactics

Warm-up cold leads with email Teasers

One of the most important elements of your lead generation strategies is to warm-up the cold prospects with a “heads-up” email.

The first step in any lead generation strategy is to find the decision maker. You can sometimes do this when you purchase your mailing list from your list broker, but many times on complied lists this information can be inaccurate.

The first email gives you the perfect opportunity to validate contacts.

Since most prospects will not accept a request for a meeting from someone they don’t know. Before contacting a new prospect, send an initial prospecting email that helps you to melt the ice and make a non-threatening introduction.

First Email

With research you can find other key players (decision makers) in the company that you are planning to contact.

The call to action in the e-mail is very discrete, and opens the conversation for follow-up email where you can reach your goal to set an appointment.

Direct Advice from an “Old Geezer”

This is not my picture but I'm the old geezer

This is not my picture but I’m the old geezer

My advice is that Direct Mail Postcards can be Ridiculously Inexpensive and highly effective and here is why.

At our agency some of the most profitable campaigns are created the “old school” way with targeted mailing lists and segmented over-sized post cards.

I know that direct mail isn’t as interesting as social marketing or video publishing but …..

I can prove that when direct mail is well defined and focused on  industrial niches your results will be amazing even in rust-belt manufacturing industries.

Take the advice from an old veteran or direct response geezer.

Lead Generation Optimized

Converting the lead into an appointment – broken down!

Sales leads should generate cash flow quickly and consistently.

A system that segments the top of the heap with a direct marketing list selection process.

The top 20 percent segment can be separated by how recently they purchased from you, but also by how frequently they purchase from you and the dollar volume they have purchased over their lifetime. Direct mail campaigns and telephone follow up calls can be set to close the sale. Testing and segmenting the unique characteristics of your best and most profitable customers.

Is Cold Calling and Lead Generation a Numbers Game?

Lets look at the numbers and make some big improvements to lead generation

This lie is used to sell all sorts of mass-marketing lists, print materials and campaigns that are a waste of money. And because

Is lead generation a numbers game?

Is lead generation a numbers game?the people who tell you this ALSO tell you you can’t measure advertising, you have no way of knowing whether they’re right or wrong.

It is unfortunate that few marketers devote the time needed to analyze their best customers and accept low response rates as a consequence of poor campaign and list selection.

Let’s say we know that our direct marketing control is a simple, segmented postcard that generates a response rate of 6% when we follow up with a phone call to the decision maker.

Let’s say the cost is calculated at  a dollar for the postcard and list and additional dollar to have someone call them and we mail out 10,000 cards for a total cost of $20,000 for mailing, printing and phone call.

We are comfortable from the fact that this control will always produce an average response rate of 5% and will cost around $20,000 [Read more…]

Ndamukong Suh, was fined a NFL record of $100,000 by the NFL for his hit on Minnesota Vikings center John Sullivan. The NFL fined Suh $30,000 last season for unnecessary roughness because he kicked Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub in the groin area.
